In Loving Memory of Thomas “Tom” Whitaker (1958–2026)

Thomas “Tom” Whitaker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on January 14, 1958, in the small town of Maple Ridge, Tom lived a life defined by kindness, hard work, and a deep commitment to those he loved. He spent more than 40 years as a high school history teacher, inspiring generations of students with his passion for learning and his gift for storytelling. Tom was known for his quick wit, warm smile, and ability to make anyone feel welcome. Whether he was coaching youth baseball, tending to his garden, or sharing stories around a backyard barbecue, he brought joy to every gathering. He believed that the measure of a life was not found in accomplishments, but in the relationships built along the way. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margaret Whitaker; his children, Emily Whitaker and Daniel Whitaker; four grandchildren; and countless friends whose lives were enriched by his generosity and friendship. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen Whitaker, and his younger brother, James Whitaker. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on June 3, 2026, at Maple Ridge Community Church. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor a man who left the world better than he found it. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to local literacy programs, a cause that was close to Tom’s heart. Though he has departed this world, Tom’s legacy of compassion, laughter, and unwavering love will continue to live on in all who knew him. "A life well lived leaves an echo in the hearts of others."
